May durable goods up for third consecutive month
New orders for manufactured durable goods in May, up three consecutive months, increased $4.9 billion or 1.7% to $288.2 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced June 27.

IKO appoints new national distribution sales manager
IKO has named Jeff Williams as national distribution sales manager. Contributing to the company's efforts to build and enhance relationships with its customers, Williams will be based in Parsippany, New Jersey and will work closely with its distributors and sales teams.

Year-to-date cutting tool orders up 15% over '22
April 2023 U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $190.0 million, according to the U.S. Cutting Tool Institute (USCTI) and AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report collaboration, was down 15.8% from March’s $225.6 million and up 7.5% when compared with the $176.7 million reported for April 2022. With a year-to-date total of $809.0 million, 2023 is up 15.2% when compared to the same time period in 2022.

NetPlus Alliance distributor members remain optimistic about 2023 revenue, despite talent challenges and lingering inventory obstacles, according to the latest NetPlus Alliance Industry Outlook, a quarterly report based on a survey of NetPlus members.

Index suggests economic growth declined in May
Led by declines in production-related indicators, the Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) decreased to –0.15 in May from +0.14 in April. Two of the four broad categories of indicators used to construct the index decreased from April, and three of the four categories made negative contributions in May. The index’s three-month moving average, CFNAI-MA3, increased to –0.14 in May from –0.20 in April.

Enerpac Tool Group reports Q3 record gross profit margins
Enerpac Tool Group reported its third quarter net sales were $156 million, 3% higher than the prior fiscal year’s third quarter net sales. The company also stated it achieved record gross profit margins and adjusted EBITDA margins since its launch in 2019.

Ingersoll Rand Inc., a global provider of mission-critical flow creation and industrial solutions, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Howden Roots LLC (Roots) from Chart Industries, Inc. for an all-cash purchase price of approximately $300 million.

AFC Industries buys WDS
AFC Industries in Fairfield, Ohio, has acquired White Distribution and Supply (WDS) based in Muscatine, Iowa. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

April orders dip double digits
New orders of manufacturing technology totaled $336.7 million in April 2023, according to the latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders Report published by AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. April orders declined 38.7% from March 2023 orders and declined 34.4% from April 2022 orders. Year-to-date orders totaled $1.72 billion in 2023, 13.6% below the same period in 2022.

ISA appoints senior director of business development
The Industrial Supply Association (ISA) has promoted Joby Strobo from director of strategic initiatives to her new role as senior director of business development. She will lead the organization's membership efforts in addition to her current responsibilities.

President/CEO leaves Bosch Rexroth

Kimberly-Clark reports sustainability progress
According to its latest annual sustainability report, Kimberly-Clark achieved by year-end 2022 an absolute reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of 42% and a 9.4% energy efficiency improvement versus the 2015 baseline. The report provided an update on the company's progress toward its 2030 sustainability strategy and goals.

Supply executives: New orders and backlogs contracting
Economic activity in the manufacturing sector contracted in May for the seventh consecutive month following a 28-month period of growth, say the nation's supply executives in the latest Manufacturing ISM Report On Business.

Fastenal posts 10% YOY net sales increase
Fastenal Co. reported May net sales of $6.5 million, a 10% increase over May 2022. Its daily sales grew 9.7% in the manufacturing end market, a drop from 22.4% last May. The non-residential construction market delivered a 9.5% decline last month, versus a 10.7% increase YOY.

Cooper Electric to acquire Billows Electric Supply
Sonepar announced its U.S. subsidiary, Cooper Electric, has entered into an agreement to acquire Billows Electric Supply.

The all-cash transaction is valued at approximately $1.6 billion, including the assumption of debt.

IAG Cargo launches London–Cincinnati route 
IAG Cargo, the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG), announced it will be starting a new direct service between London-Heathrow and Cincinnati, Ohio for the first time in its history. The service will be operated by a British Airways B787-8 aircraft.

Manufactured goods nudge up half a percent
New orders for manufactured goods in April, up four of the last five months, increased $2.6 billion or 0.4 percent to $577.5 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported on June 5.
