Construction jobs up but factory employment down in Sept.

Contractors added 23,000 jobs in September after losing 5,000 jobs in August, while factory jobs fell by 13,000 during the month.


The September job losses in manufacturing followed a decline of 16,000 the month before.

Mining employment was unchanged in September after declining by 220,000 from a peak in September 2014.

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 156,000 in September, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 5.0 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
